Erdal Kaya: Kurdish stand-up comedy should become normalized
10.09.2025Kevi is a contemporary music project established to preserve and carry the dengbej tradition, one of the most deeply rooted legacies of Kurdish oral culture, into the future. Formed by Bangevaz Çağrı Koç, İbrahim Konaç, and Dengbej Abdurrahman Cizîrî, Kevi aims to bring dengbej melodies, particularly those from the Botan region, to younger generations by blending them with music.
The meeting of Dengbej and modern sound
The Kevi Project is not just a music group; it is also a cultural initiative that aims to combine Kurdish oral history, narrative tradition, and local memory with the tools of the digital age. It preserves the essence of dengbej songs and reconnects them with listeners through new musical arrangements.
A journey beginning in Botan
Initially focusing on melodies from the Botan region, the group plans to expand to other regions of the Kurdish region in the future. This aims not only to produce music but also to map and archive the regional dengbej heritage.
They visited Şoperêç
The founders of the Kevi project shared their cultural journey on the Şoperêç platform. They conducted an in-depth conversation on the current meaning of dengbej, its relationship with young people, the transformation of music, and cultural responsibility.
