22.04.2025Diyarbakır celebrated Newroz with great enthusiasm this year with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people. Celebrated every year on March 21st and symbolizing resistance, freedom and hope for the Kurdish people along with the arrival of spring, Newroz was the scene of a historic crowd in 2024 as well.

The celebrations were traditionally held in Diyarbakır Newroz Park (Newroz Area). People flocked to the area from the early hours of the morning, filling the area with local costumes, Kurdish music, halay dances and slogans.
Hundreds of thousands of people gathered around the fire, lit the Newroz fire and joined the celebrations with wishes for peace, freedom and brotherhood.
What is the meaning of Newroz?
Newroz is a spring festival celebrated by many societies in the Middle East, especially the Kurdish people. It is also a historical day of resistance symbolizing the rebellion of Kawa the Blacksmith against the tyrant Dehak. Therefore, Newroz represents not only the awakening of nature but also the spirit of social solidarity and freedom.
