Berfin Aktay: My Father is my fountain of art
April 23, 2025Painting Workshop in the basement of his house
Emre Altuntop migrated from Batman to Istanbul with his family 15 years ago.
Altuntop, who completed his university education in the Department of International Relations and Political Science, today serves tea and coffee in a shop during the day.
However, his real journey continues in the small painting workshop he set up in the basement of his house, where he started the rest of the day.
“I lost my love for politics, I devoted myself to art”
Altuntop’s political education at university eventually gave way to his inner attraction to art.
He describes this transformation that changed the direction of his life in his own words as follows:
“My interest and love did not remain in politics. I turned my attention to art. I wanted to work on people, to touch their emotions.”
With these words, Altuntop reveals that he sees art not as an escape, but as a place of confrontation.
Colors born from the basement
Altuntop, who turned a small basement room into a workshop, is alone here not only with canvas and paint, but also with himself.
The young artist, who produces in many different styles from figurative works to portraits, from emotion-oriented sketches to experimental compositions, lives on the axis of labor during the day and production at night.
