April 23, 2025Oral heritage from Central Anatolian Kurds to children
The rich oral heritage of Kurdish culture is not just about epics and dengbej.
Children’s tales are a very valuable part of this heritage with both their educational aspects and their power of cultural transmission.
While Kurdish tales teach children life lessons, they also contribute to the development of their imagination, language skills and cultural identities.
Kurdish tales: Memory passed down from generation to generation
While storytelling among Kurds spreads from mouth to mouth through traditional forms of narration, it is now also conveyed to new generations through modern media tools.
Thanks to these tales, children both have fun and get to know their culture, reinforcing their sense of belonging.
This tradition is still alive among the Kurds of Central Anatolia.
