A Kurdish village in Ankara: Mikaîla’s 300-year-old story
23.04.2025Despite its arid and seemingly unsuitable steppe structure, Zincirlikuyu village in Konya’s Kulu district hosts hopes that have blossomed with a conscious approach.
One of the pioneers of this hope is Agricultural Engineer Mustafa Çakır.
Returning to agriculture after retirement
After working in the public sector for years, Mustafa Çakır retired and returned to his village to buy a 100-acre field.
Çakır, who turned his love for the soil into a project, began to use most of this land with almond trees and the rest with vegetable production.
Sustainability with solar-powered irrigation
One of the biggest challenges of farming in arid regions is the need for irrigation.
Çakır, who solved this problem with an environmentally friendly and economical method, both reduces energy costs and practices sustainable agriculture by drawing water from the well he dug himself with solar panels.
Efficient alternative to dry farming
Çakır, who wants this model, which he developed as an alternative to the dry farming practices common around Konya, to be an example for the people of the region, especially wants the youth to turn to agriculture.
“Planting something and seeing its fruit really gives a person great happiness. This provides not only economic but also spiritual satisfaction,” he adds.
