Egîdê Cimo, the Miri of the Pipe
Egîdê Cimo was a master artist in Kurdish music, especially known for his kaval instrument. Throughout his life, he carried the themes of migration, longing and homesickness into his music. His melodies would affect the listener not only with their melodic structure but also with their emotional depth.
Mesud Gever: Cimo’s pipe had the color of the homeland
Speaking at the event, Mesud Gever, one of the Ma Music instructors, described Egîdê Cimo’s life and musical heritage as follows:
“Egîdê Cimo’s whole life is about migration and leaving his land. When you listen to his kaval, longing, migration and the color of his homeland show themselves. He was a very successful master. We remember him with respect.”
At the end of his speech, Gever emphasized with the following words:
“We promise that as students of Ma Music Academy and Egîdê Cimo, we will carry Kurdish music forward and keep it alive.”
Music and memory united
After the speeches, Egîdê Cimo’s works were performed on stage by his students and colleagues. The melodies that came to life with the breath of the kaval gave the audience both sad and hopeful moments.
