Hasan Kaya is a 27-year-old young worker. Living in Gaziantep, Kaya’s life reflects the silent story of young people who have to work in a textile workshop to make a living despite having many university degrees.

A journey that started with a dream of education

Kaya’s academic background is quite strong: He graduated from the History Department of Harran University. He also received formation training and dreamed of becoming a teacher. He also completed the Occupational Health and Safety Department of the Open Education Faculty. Finally, he won the Physiotherapy Department in Cyprus. However, his dreams were cut short, just like many young people, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unable to continue his education, Hasan had to return to the textile workshop where he had worked since his childhood to make a living.

Today, Hasan Kaya is a university graduate who, like many young people, is unemployed despite his education and works in industrial workshops. He works on the production line in a textile workshop, works long hours and contributes to his family. This picture is just one of the invisible faces of an education system without job security and youth unemployment.
