Thousands of buildings were damaged in Diyarbakır, which was affected by the earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş. Some of the citizens who cannot enter their homes or are afraid to enter are struggling to survive in tent cities set up by AFAD.
Zeynep Yücel, who is staying in one of these tents, is both a cancer patient and a diabetic. Yücel, who cannot access her treatment regularly due to financial difficulties, has open wounds on her body. Bruising and inflammation are especially noticeable on her feet.
Zeynep Yücel: I cannot get treatment, my wounds are infected
Yücel, who expressed her complaints, stated that her health condition is getting worse every day and said the following:
“My wounds are always infected. I do not have the financial means, I cannot get treatment. There is no medicine or care. I want help.”
“Life in a tent is difficult, we are struggling to make it to the morning”
Yücel complains not only about the inadequacy of health services, but also the inadequacy of shelter and living conditions.
Yücel, who emphasized that living in AFAD tents is quite difficult, stated that aid was not distributed fairly, like other earthquake victims staying in tents: “The tent is cold. No sponges or blankets were brought. We are sleeping on the ground. We are struggling through the morning, we are itching until the morning.”
