Müslime Kelekçier: They should remove the male market vendors from among us

The Jiyan Neighborhood Market, established in 2013 by the Bağlar Municipality in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır to support women’s economic independence, is today one of the symbols of women’s labor and resistance. In this market, which was established so that only women could work, over 200 women started to contribute to the household economy by opening stalls.

Jiyan Women's Neighborhood Market, established in 2013 in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır with the aim of increasing women's participation in economic life, has become both a space of solidarity and a place of resistance over the years. Only women were allowed to work at the market opened in Bağcılar Neighborhood, while priority was given to women who were victims of violence and low-income. This market, which opened with over 200 stalls, quickly became a source of income for many women.

Salih Kaya: This is not life, it really is not

Salih Kaya is 55 years old. He is one of the thousands of people who had to migrate from his village to Diyarbakır due to the conflicts that took place in the 1990s. Kaya, who only dealt with agriculture and animal husbandry in his village life, found a solution in buying a rickshaw to continue his life in the city.
