Maruf Yüce: Culture and art are the nails of the soul
23.04.2025Ahmet Kaya (50) lives on Cinderesi Street in the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep. Kaya, who worked as a marble paver for years, fell from a tree in his garden in 2013 and became paralyzed from the waist down. Having to stay home for a long time after this unfortunate accident, Kaya found a way to reconnect with life after 7 years.
Back in life with a Ferris wheel
Ahmet Kaya takes an extraordinary step to get out of the situation he is in: He decides to make a Ferris wheel for children. He assembles the small Ferris wheel he had made in the industry onto his electric wheelchair with his own effort. Every day, he goes to the park close to his house and offers this small but fun swing service to children.
“If you ask me, it is a very nice feeling. Because seeing those children happy gives me extra energy. When they get on the swing, they are happy, and I am happy too.”
Not for profit, but for a purpose that comes from the heart
Ahmet Kaya does this job not to earn money, but to bring joy to children and to heal his own soul. Kaya, who says, “It doesn’t matter whether the children have money or not. I give them all rides. The important thing is to be busy with something,” creates ways to make his life meaningful with his own means.
