Ankara and its surroundings have hosted many civilizations throughout history and are an extremely rich geography in cultural terms.

One of these ancient civilizations is the Phrygians. The Phrygians, who existed in the inner parts of Anatolia from 1200 BC onwards, established a powerful kingdom especially in today’s Polatlı, Gordion and its surroundings.

Gordion and the rise of the Phrygian Kingdom

Located near the Polatlı district of Ankara today, Gordion has historical importance as the capital of the Phrygian Kingdom.

Reaching its peak in political and cultural terms during the reign of King Midas, this center has shown developments in many areas from architecture to art, from craftsmanship to belief system.

The mounds, stone-paved roads, palace ruins and pottery pieces obtained as a result of archaeological excavations in Gordion reveal the richness of Phrygian culture.

Traces of Phrygian Civilization in İnler Village

The cultural traces of the Phrygians are not limited to Gordion.

There are also traces of the Phrygian period in İnler Village, affiliated to Polatlı.

Some rock formations, stone structures and possible tumulus areas in this region show that the Phrygians were also influential in this geography.
