His curiosity turned into a profession: Antique dealer since the age of 9
23.04.2025Bilge Kutlu is an artist who draws attention as both a painter and a sculptor. Kutlu, who started her artistic career with painting, began to express herself in sculpture after discovering stone.
Kutlu, who lives in Istanbul today, draws attention especially with her works themed around women. In her works, she usually depicts women who are subjected to violence or are strong.
A woman who gives life to stone
Kutlu not only shapes the stone, but also feels its spirit.
She describes her relationship with stone as follows:
“The stone has a spirit within itself. Sometimes I direct the stone, and sometimes the stone directs me. This is a mutual balance.”
Kutlu, who sees her art as a form of inner expression, states that she is working on a new series that reflects the power of Kurdish women in particular.
“Women-Themed Unfinished Portraits Exhibition” on the way
Bilge Kutlu’s next project is the “Women-Themed Unfinished Portraits” exhibition.
This exhibition will feature portraits that appear incomplete but actually tell a powerful story.
“I am a woman. Secondly, I am a Kurd. Thirdly, I live in a country like Turkey. In a place where violence against women and Kurds continues unabated, I am also telling my story.”
Kutlu emphasizes that although she has not been directly subjected to violence, she has chosen not to remain silent about this issue through her art.
