Şoperêç means “footprint” in Kurdish. However, this word does not only represent a physical trace; it also represents a direction that remains in memory, a path that extends to the future by following the traces of the past. Based on this meaning, we aimed to follow and record forgotten stories, voices and information, and carry them to the present and the future.
Şoperêç is an independent culture and memory platform that carries the oral narrative tradition, memory and cultural richness of the Kurds to the digital world. It started in 2022 as an individual initiative. First, they set out with a camera, microphone and notebook. They visited villages, listened to the stories of the elderly and listened to the voices of women. These contents were published on YouTube and reached the audience through social media. Over time, it developed in the fields of digital storytelling, archiving and content production, turning into a platform that contributes to the Kurdish language gaining a permanent place in the digital world. Today, Şoperêç comes to life on this digital platform with a more inclusive, systematic and sustainable structure.
The main purpose of the platform; To ensure that Kurdish has a unique place in the digital world, while also enabling access to information in this language. A wide range of content is produced, from dengbej to children’s tales, from women’s stories to village memories. This cultural heritage is preserved and made visible with texts, audio recordings and videos, all prepared in Kurdish.
Şoperêç is also a practice of tracing. This journey, which traces language, identity and collective memory, is also a digital archive study. Every recorded voice, every written narrative becomes an important document about the history, struggle and existence of a people.
This platform does not only record the past; it also writes the story of today, and builds the memory of tomorrow. Every trace is a journey, and by following those traces, we carry the voice of the past to today and the knowledge of today to tomorrow. Şoperêç continues on its path to increase productions on Kurdish, to make these productions permanent and to reach wider audiences.
Because every trace is a story. And we bring these stories together with the paths that the traces lead to. Our aim is to document the narratives that live in the memory of the Kurdish people, to pass them on to new generations and to strengthen the digital existence of the Kurdish language. Şoperêç continues to be a voice that contributes to cultural continuity, independent of any institution or structure.
